Josh Keyes has been having solo shows since 1996, and yet somehow PopDrawer just discovered his beautiful, meticulous work a couple of months ago. He paints nearly photo-realistic woodland creatures (often with one slightly fantastical feature) and places them in landscapes, both wild and urban, with very unnatural, geometric borders. A theme of nature and society clashing seems to run through his work. A polar bear in a perfectly enclosed, fish-tank-like cube of icy water. A buffalo running a floating treadmill made of grass, pavement, and road signs. Okay, let's be honest -- words cannot convey. Just feast with your own eyes.
From what we can tell, Mr. Keyes has a cult-like following in the UK. We're sure the US is next. Mr. Keyes' next solo show is at the Joshua Liner Gallery in New York starting June 21st, and we will most definitely be posting an update then. Meanwhile, go goggle at his website and enjoy.

Wow, where have we been, indeed? These are pretty cool. Thanks for the heads up about the NYC show.
"Mew York"? By any chance did Gump write this post? ;)
Great info, btw... as usual!
Bilge, if you happen to check out the show, email us your comments. Would love to post an eyewitness report!
Lori... Thanks for the catch. Fixed it.
Hey Teddy, I'm definitely going to check it out. I'm pretty useless writing about art art, but I'll send along some impressions.
Look forward to your impressions, Bilge!
