PopDrawer Favorite - Camille Rose Garcia

CRGBlack_Dawn _Rising.jpg

Ich wish Ich Bin Ein Berliner. At least I do today. Because the amazing Camille Rose Garcia has a show opening at Merry Karnowsky's Berlin Gallery tonight. Ms. Garcia ha been showing with the Merry Karnowsky Gallery for years now, and her latest show is "The Grand Illusion." Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any images of the show yet, but as soon as I do, I will post them on PopDrawer.

Camille Rose Garcia grew up in the shadow of Disneyland, and it shows. Her paintings are populated by "creepy cartoon children living in wasteland fairy tales," that marry an impossible fantasy land with a utopia gone wrong. The settings are intricate and otherworldly, the colors at once candy-coated and decaying, and the characters often ominously stalking the innocent. More recently her paintings have prominently featured animals in these deteriorating landscapes, seeming to represent nature in our ecologically troubled environment.

While most of you probably can't get to Berlin, you can still own a piece of Camille Rose Garcia gorgeousity. There are wonderful prints available at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery website. They are large, stunning Giclee, hand-glittered by Ms. Garcia. Some posters and books are also available there.
